MySpace and Facebook
January 14, 2010I have had a hell of a time locating info on most of the decks from the 90′s. Companies were struggling to stay alive after public interest in the sport waned and only the hard core skaters were left. They didnt keep good records and they didnt pay all that well which lead to a lot of pros disappearing as quickly as they had appeared. Jose Manuel Roura who is from Spain was a great example. He had a couple pro models with Public as shown below then disappeared from the American scene as Public struggled (then collapsed) and lacked the money to either advertise him or bring him to America to show off. For a while I assumed there was no way in hell I would ever locate another one of his decks, let alone find one in good condition.
I finally decided to Facebook and Myspace some old pros, and low and behold, he has a current myspace page. To top it off he still skates. I have attempted to contact him through the website, so we’ll see what happens. Maybe there is a closet with old boards in Spain. Locating a board like his shown below would probably be more gratifying than finding Tony Hawk’s first pro model in NOS condition considering the odds of such a random model surviving.
